Hosts Kenya will meet Rwanda in the first quarter-final clash of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup championship match to be played at Mombasa’s Municipal Stadium tomorrow.

Rwanda secured the last eight place after breezing past Eritrea during the final Group C match played at the Kenyatta Stadium earlier in the afternoon yesterday.

It was Michel Ndahinduka who powered Rwanda into the quarters in a closely contested encounter. Rwanda had lost two group stage games by a single goal to both Ethiopia and holders Uganda.

Both Ethiopia and Kenya had ended the group stage games with identical statistics and their ranking as top-placed and runners-up in their group had to be decided by a toss of coin here yesterday afternoon.

The other quarter-final clash to be played on Sunday will involve Zambia versus Burundi who qualified as the second best loser in Group B while the Chipolopolo topped to the group.

Mainland Tanzania, popularly known as Kilimanjaro Stars were waiting to know the result between holders Uganda and Ethiopia whose match was still in progress yesterday evening.

Ethiopia was also put on hold to know their next opponents in quarters.
Teams that have kissed a hand of goodbye from the tournament that involved twelve teams are South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and Zanzibar.

Kenya, Ethiopia, Mainland Tanzania,  Zambia had ended their group stage matches with unbeaten run to collect seven points each having won two matches and drew once.

All the last eight matches will be played in Mombasa this weekend ahead of the semi-finals scheduled for Kisumu mid next week.

The final will be played at the Nyayo Stadium on Thursday when Kenya will be celebrating 50th independence anniversary.

Meanwhile, Kilimanjaro Stars coach Kim Poulsen said he has been highly impressed by the way his boys played their group stage final game against Burundi which they posted a slim one goal win at the Afraha Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday.

He said the arrival of TP Mazembe duo of Mbwana Samata and Thomas Ulimwengu played a huge role to shape up his team.
